Delhi Dynamos boss Josep Gombau seemed confident about his players scoring in the next match against NorthEast United FC on Tuesday as the side aim to end their winless streak. The Delhi-based franchise has been third worst team in ISL with three losses and two draws in their five matches.

Delhi’s desperate attempt to change their ISL fortunes after yet another disastrous last season has been in despair so far with the club yet to see a single win under new manager Josep Gombau. However, like Chennaiyin FC and FC Pune City, the team couldn’t be blamed for lack of heart or intent in their play. For some reason or the other, the side has failed to get the quintessential three points.

Scoring goals has been a huge concern for the side managing just three goals in five matches and the manager has come out declaring that the club will start scoring from the next match. He sounded ready for the question and came armed with stats.

“Tomorrow is the day that we will start to score goals. Boys are doing well. I think that in Mumbai even though we lost, we had 20 shots on goal but just six on target. We had 19 crosses, we had more than 400 passes, 555 touches, 58% of possession. Everything is there but the most important thing is to score goals. Today we were discussing with the players that we are close. We have a lack of confidence because we have all these chances and we don’t score. This is something that can affect the team. But I hope that we will be strong tomorrow here at home in front of our fans,” said Gombau.

Apart from scoring, Delhi’s inconsistent defence has also conceded six goals in five matches, which is not much compared to the other sides, who have been shipping in goals like chickens. However, Gombau justified those numbers by stating that it was because of his side’s attacking intent.

“We are conceding in transition in counter attacks because we are playing a lot of attacking football. We are playing most of the times in our opponent’s half. We are having the ball, we are having this chance. And this means that when we lose the ball there is big space behind us and other teams are profiting of this. Honestly, I think we are defending well because what we need to do is avoid losing the ball easily. We must make better decisions when we have the ball and avoid the moments when we lose the ball,” Gombau opined.
