Sharing his technical views, ATK coach Steve Coppell has explained that defenders need to be more focused about discipline while the attackers rely more on creativity and instincts. ATK has made an addition to the team this Indian Super League (ISL) season in the form of Gerson Vieira from Brazil.

Two-time winners ATK decided to go in for former rival Steve Coppell to replace Teddy Sheringham, who held the reigns of the team last year. Coppell had led Kerala Blasters to the final two years ago before managing Jamshedpur FC for a year in 2018. Now in his third season in the Indian Super League, Coppell is hoping to do what he failed to at his two previous clubs - Win the title.

“I don’t prioritise it (the defence) to be absolutely honest. We just think that it is a part of the team’s preparation. Defence is more about discipline and attacking football is more about creativity and intuition. It’s something you can’t coach. I would be hoping that this season we will be defensively strong, but it’s not something that we have got ourselves to worry about,” Coppell told ISL Media team.

Gerson Vieira, who was a big part of the Mumbai team for the last two ISL seasons has also been roped in by the Kolkata outfit for the upcoming season. Vieira had been a major part of the Mumbai success playing 31 games in two seasons.

“Actually, I am more excited for this season because it is a new moment in my life and I have to live like full-time. I have to put my full energy in this and I am 100% motivated,” he said.
