The Indian women’s football team, led by Aditi Chauhan, registered a 1-0 victory against hosts’ Hong Kong in closely fought encounter on Wednesday night. A goal from substitute Pyari Xaxa in the 68th minute was enough to condemn the home team to their second defeat against India in three days.

The Indian women’s football team are on a roll right after they pulled off a second win against Hong Kong in three days beating the hosts’ by a 1-0 margin on Wednesday night. Having previously beaten the home team by a scoreline of 5-2, the Indian team led by Aditi Chauhan entered the second game full of confidence and raring to go.

Indian head coach, Maymol Rocky, decided to go with an unchanged line-up in for the second match as India were on the hunt for a second consecutive win. However, the home team looked to have learnt from their mistakes in the previous game and looked more solid in defence this time round.

Hong Kong goalkeeper Yuen Ki NG was at her very best on Wednesday making as many as six saves in the second half. India opted to remove the ineffective Anju Tamang in the second half which gave way for Odisha-born Pyari Xaxa to come onto the pitch for the next 45 minutes. Her introduction also provided the first real chance of the game in the 51st minute. Xaxa, who turns out for Rising Student Club, scored the solitary goal for India after finding the back of the net from Sanju Yadav's pinpoint pass in the 68th minute.

However, the forward was later forced off the pitch in the dying stages of the game as she limped off with an injury, with Sandhiya Ranganathan replacing her. India will have to deal with this injury headache as they will now depart to Indonesia for a similar two-game tour starting 27 January.
