Mumbai City FC have bolstered their squad for the coming season of the Indian Super League with the acquisition of former Northeast United FC center-back Mato Grgic. The Croatian was instrumental in the team from Eastern India making it into the top four for the first time in their history.

Mumbai City FC managed to make it to the playoffs last season before they were completely decimated by FC Goa, who ran out winners by an aggregate scoreline of 5-2 over the two semi final legs. In order to prevent the same thing from happening again, Mumbai have bolstered their backline with one the best defenders from last season in the form of Grgic. The Croatian was exceptional last season with an incredible 148 clearances and 32 blocks in just 19 matches.

Mumbai announced the transfer through their official Twitter handle tweeting, We have reinforced our backline by bringing in Croatian defender Mato Grgić who had a spectacular #HeroISL5 & helped @NEUtdFC reach their first ever semifinal. He will look to replicate those impressive performances with us too!"

While the deal appears to be a transfer, no details of the same have been revealed by any club so far. While Mumbai seem to be getting in shape on building on their successful campaign last season, NorthEast United are going in the other direction. Not only have the side lost manager Eelco Schattorie to Kerala Blasters, key players from last season, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Rowllin Ogbeche, and Keegan Pereira, have also departed.
