After weeks of protest and threatening to abandon the AIFF Super Cup, the I-League clubs had finally informed that they would be willing to play the tournament provided president Praful Patel assured to meet with them and address their concerns about I-League's future.

AIFF General Secretary, Kushal Das, had earlier claimed that the president "has been busy with election campaigns" and was "also in the running to become a FIFA council member from Asia" which made it very difficult for him to meet the clubs that had caused all the chaos. However, a recent report on Goal.com has now claimed that Patel has agreed to arrange the meeting with I-League clubs sometime between April 10 - 15. The venue for the aforementioned meeting is yet to be decided.

The report further stated that Patel has also urged the clubs to rethink their decision of boycotting the Super Cup. The AIFF president has assured the clubs that a decision could be taken after coming to a mutual consensus discussing the issue.

Earlier, 2018 I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC, Aizawl FC and Gokulam Kerala FC had walked out of the qualifiers of the Super Cup which were to be played on March 14 and March 15 in Bhubaneswar. A total of nine I-League clubs had unanimously decided to pull out of the Super Cup citing unfair treatment from the Indian footballing body.
