Alexandre Lacazette is aiming to return to training and be in contention to feature against Sheffield United when the Premier League resumes after the international break. Lacazette suffered an ankle injury against city rivals Tottenham on September 1 and has been out of the team ever since.

Alexandre Lacazette should be fit enough to play a part in Arsenal’s tie against Sheffield United after his rehabilitation has gone well according to the plan reports Sky Sports. The French striker featured in three games for the Gunners, scoring two goals, before an ankle injury put him out of the action for a month. However, his absence in the frontline hasn’t hurt Arsenal thanks to Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s outstanding goal scoring form.

The North London giants have had a promising start to the season and sit third in the league table below Manchester City and Liverpool. Not only that, they’ve recorded two wins in two games in Europa League group stages putting them at the top of their table. The former Lyon striker’s return will mean that Unai Emery has a full-strength side to use against Sheffield United. Lacazette’s return also gives Emery a tactical edge and will allow him to change the shape of the team. He can play a two man striker system or shift Aubameyang to the left and play Lacazette as the main striker in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 formation.

The 28-year-old moved to Arsenal in 2017 for a then club-record fee of £46.5 million and has blossomed well for the Gunners scoring 38 goals in 91 appearances. However, the striker has also struggled with injuries during his time at the Emirates. Once the number nine returns to full fitness, Emery will also be able to unleash Aubameyang, Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe in Arsenal’s frontline.
