The Indian U16 team blanked Bahrain 5-0 in their 2020 AFC Championships qualifiers to maintain a 100 per cent win record after winning by a similar margin in the last match against Turkmenistan. With the win on Friday evening, Bibiano Fernandes’ men are now unbeaten for 13 matches in a row

Going into the match after an impressive outing against Turkmenistan a couple of days ago, the Indian colts took the offensive route from the starting whistle at the Transport Institute Stadium, in Tashkent. Sridarth struck early in the 4th minute to give India the lead while Mohammad Jafar scored an own goal in the 25th minute to double the lead.

The Indian forward completed his brace a couple of minutes later, before winger Subho Paul tricked a Bahraini defender and slotted home India’s fourth at the stroke of half-time. Bahrain could not recover from the dire situation after the change of ends and eventually conceded the fifth goal in the 73rd minute. Subho netted the last one and ended the game with two goals to his name.

With the win, India now sits at the top of Group ‘B’ by virtue of a superior goal difference, with Uzbekistan sitting right behind them. The ‘Blue Tigers’ will be up for a stiff challenge when they face hosts and second-placed side Uzbekistan on Sunday.
