Cotswolds Song Aims to Inspire Englands World Cup Dream
A football anthem created in Gloucestershire is being tipped to boost England’s spirit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Let’s Hear It England, first produced for the 2010 tournament and remade in 2018, features famous commentators like Guy Mowbray and Peter Drury.
Creator Steve Banyard hopes the song can become a fresh fan favourite alongside traditional England anthems.
For the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, a football song created near the Cotswolds is being highlighted as a potential anthem to boost England’s spirit. Titled Let’s Hear It England, the upbeat track mixes the voices of famous football commentators with crowd chants to create a stadium-like atmosphere. The song includes broadcasters such as Guy Mowbray, Peter Drury, Martin Tyler, and several other well-known commentators.
The song was originally co-produced in 2010 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by commentator and music enthusiast Steve Banyard. Inspired by his love for both football and music, Banyard worked with the Cotswold Male Voice Choir to give the song a fan-like sound while keeping it melodic. It was later re-recorded in 2018 for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with support from the University of Gloucestershire and Dean Close School in Cheltenham.
The remade version also featured archive footage of England’s historic 1966 World Cup-winning squad, including icons like Alf Ramsey and Bobby Moore. Although the song gained media attention through outlets like Sky News and ITV, it struggled to replace classics such as Three Lions on radio playlists. With England fans once again dreaming of World Cup success, the track is being promoted as a fresh and fun alternative anthem.
