BCCI reveals financial records- paid Gavaskar ~1 cr for commentary
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday put up details of their expenditure for the month of November 2015, which includes the commentating fees of a sum of 89 lakhs, which was paid to former cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar. Additionally, 2.4 crores was given to the ICC for carrying an extra member during the World Cup in Australia-New Zealand this year.
Pacer Dhawal Kulkarni was taken along as a last-minute substitute for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was injured. Kulkarni stayed back with the team after their ODI series against Australia before the World Cup, as reported by media then.
Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar reportedly has a Rs. 4 crore per year contract as BCCI-endorsed commentator and was paid a sum of Rs. 89 lakhs as the commentating fees for a period from July to September 2015.
The boards of Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh were paid Rs 11.2 crores, Rs 8.43 crores respectively.
The board also paid Harbhajan Singh a sum of Rs 35 lakhs for the tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, while retired cricketer Zaheer Khan was paid Rs. 81.12 lakh “towards loss of play for IPL 2014”.
Cricketers Ajinkya Rahane, Murali Vijay were given Rs 42 lakhs and Rs 32 lakhs as part of tour fee, match fee and retainership fee for the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka series, while Rohit Sharma was paid 35 lakhs for the Lanka series.
