Raina falters yet UP defeats Saurashtra in Hazare trophy
Uttar Pradesh put up a strong performance as they defeated Saurashtra by five wickets to win their third group game in the Vijay Hazare trophy. UP managed to chase the modest target of 189 set by Saurashtra in 44.5 overs with a good show by Shubham Chaubey who remained unbeaten at 85.
Openers Sheldon Jackson and Avi Barot managed a total of 3 runs before they were sent packing as Saurashtra slumped to 4/2. Cheteshwar Pujara came in after Jackson was clean bowled by Praveen Kumar and scored a creditable 41 off 68 balls – the innings was the top score for Saurashtra.
Arpit Vasavada and Kamlesh Makavana managed to steady their innings after cheap dismissals of Pujara, R Jadeja and captain Jaydev Shah with scores of 39 and 35 respectively. Piyush Chawla was the best pick among the UP bowlers with a scalp of 3 wickets at the expense of 53 runs restricting the opponents to 189.
Saurabh Dubey and Umang Sharma opened the innings for UP, but could not inflict much damage as they were dismissed for 0 and 18 respectively. Shubham Chaubey, however, came to the rescue scoring a steady 85 off 125 balls. Suresh Raina, captaining his team, did not contribute much as he was sent back by Makavana at 18.
But Shubham struck valuable partnerships with Eklavya Dwivedi and Akshdeep Nath and managed to chase the target with 5.2 overs left.
