IPL 2016: Virat Kohli fined for slow over rate
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has been fined Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Rising Pune Supergiants on Friday night. Kohli scored a 63-ball 80 and formed a century run partnership with AB de Villiers to lead the team to a 13-run win.
The win against M S Dhoni’s Rising Pune Supergiants ended RCB’s two-match losing streak, but the team’s slow over rate has seen skipper Virat Kohli losing Rs. 12 lakh from his pocket.
"Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last evening's VIVO IPL match against RPS.
"Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh," the IPL statement said.
After being put into bat, RCB scored 185/3 on the back of Kohli and de Villiers’third-century partnership of the season. Kohli scored 80 runs off 63 balls, while de Villiers won the man of the match after piling 83 runs in 46 balls. On the other hand, Rising Pune Supergiants struggled in their chase after losing the wickets of Faf du Plessis, Steve Smith, also losing Kevin Pietersen to an injury. Ajinkya Rahane and M S Dhoni’s 91-run partnership and some late-innings fireworks from Thisara Perera helped them get close to the target, but they finally fell 14 runs short of a victory.
RCB will next face Gujarat Lions at the SCA stadium in Rajkot on Sunday, while Rising Pune Supergiants will search for a win against Kolkata Knight Riders on the same day at MCA stadium in Pune.
