Karun Nair converted his maiden International century into a double-century and in the process propelled India to their all-time highest Test score of 745* today in the final Test of the England series at Chennai. The earlier record of 726/9 was made by MS Dhoni’s men in 2009 against Sri Lanka.

Karun Nair appears to have made it his job to break MS Dhoni records today - first, the youngster showed sublime application and artistry to convert his maiden International century into a double century. Not satisfied, he broke MS Dhoni’s record of the highest score for an Indian Number Five or below, going past the former India Test skipper's 224 at the same venue in 2013. The youngster then propelled India past their highest-ever Test score of 726 achieved by MS Dhoni & co against Sri Lanka in December of 2009 at Mumbai.

The Karnataka batsman is now hurtling towards converting that into a triple century and is currently at 295. Only the legendary Garfield Sobers has managed the unique feat of converting a maiden century into a triple. That is an elite company of 1 indeed.

Nair would be cautious though given the last time India hit that 729, Virender Sehwag got out at 293. KL Rahul's dismissal at 199 must as well be playing on Karun's mind right now but right now, he is on "beast" mode and nothing appears to stop him.

Update : Karun Nair has converted his first international century into a triple-century at Chenna. Nair ended with 303 runs as India declared immediately after his triple-century at 759 runs. Karun is now in an elite company of 2 - only the great Sir Garfield Sobers and Bob Simpson have achieved the unique feat. Read more here.
