BCCI bans Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf for five years

Asad Rauf did not appear before the BCCI’s disciplinary committee but opted to send his preliminary submissions on January 15, 2016, and written statement on February 8, 2016, as per a media release from the board.

“The Committee after considering the report of the Commissioner of Enquiry and the written statement of Mr Asad Rauf has arrived at the conclusion that Mr. Asad Rauf is guilty of misconduct and corruption within the meaning of Article 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.3.3 and 2.4.1 of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code,” said the BCCI’s media release.

The ban on Rauf will be for a period of five years from umpiring or playing or representing cricket in any form or in anyway being associated with the activities of the Board and its Affiliates.

Rauf was dropped from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) and Pakistan’s list of umpires after Mumbai police raised allegations against him. The umpire had denied all allegations back in 2013 by claiming it as a conspiracy against him.
