MS Dhoni may sue Aussie Spartan Sports over non-payment in sponsorship deal worth 20 Crores

MS Dhoni has a three-year bat and sponsorship deal with Spartan Sports worth Rs 13 crore. However, the royalty clause on the bat deal takes the amount close to Rs 20 crore. The Australian company however has allegedly regularly defaulted on their payments, and Dhoni's brand management company, Rhiti Sports, are considering legal action against them. According to PTI, the deal was struck in December 2013, and Spartan Sports has paid only four installments so far, the last which arrived in May 2016.

“Everything is not smooth and hopefully the matter will be resolved soon,” Rhiti Sports owner Arun Pandey told PTI, although he refused elaborate any further on the matter.

This news surprisingly comes a couple of days after Sachin Tendulkar was announced as an investor at Spartan Sports.

“The former India batsman [Sachin Tendulkar] has joined as an investor and will serve on the advisory Board alongside West Indies' hard-hitting batsman Chris Gayle, Kunal Sharma, managing director and founder of Spartan Sports and Ravi Thakran,” read a report published on the Economic Times on Tuesday.

Along with Dhoni, Spartan Sports also has ties with Michael Clarke, Chris Gayle, Eoin Morgan, Sir Viv Richards and Mitchell Johnson to name a few, and this is the first time they have run into such a trouble.
