The BCCI has been keen to invade and explore the market in USA, and recently they even came up with plans to host a mini-IPL, which has hit a roadblock, in the nation. However, they are now planning to organize a T20 series against West Indies, and possibly Bangladesh, in Florida next month.

The BCCI’s plans to conduct a ‘mini-IPL’ in USA in September had hit a roadblock with the boards of Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies opposing the idea at the annual conference in Edinburgh earlier this month. The ICC themselves also has plans of conducting a World T20 during the vacant September slot in the cricket calendar.

After failing with their mini-IPL bid, the BCCI is now planning to organize a T20 series in Florida against the reigning world champions West Indies. Reports suggest that, Bangladesh could also be invited to participate in this series, which is set to be held at the end of August, right after the Test series between West Indies and India ends.

“West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) officials will be meeting in Florida to sort it out. We are just waiting for the green signal. It’s amber already, you can say. The matches will likely be played over the last weekend of August. It will be peak summer in Florida, and it will be a spectacle. However, there is slight chance of Bangladesh being invited as the third team for a tri-series,” an unnamed BCCI source told the Indian Express.

“Since the BCCI had to call off the mini-IPL, it’s understandable that they are keen on taking cricket to the USA, and this is a great chance to sell this series as a contest between heavyweights India and world champions West Indies, who only a few months ago met in a dramatic World T20 semifinal. Considering that Florida houses a huge number of Indian and West Indian expats, if this series does happen, we could well be looking at this becoming an annual fixture,” the source added.
