Ambati Rayudu: Somebody has to do the role that I am doing

MS Dhoni’s first ODI series win since October 2014 will be credited to his bowlers, but one man who has seemed in good touch is Ambati Rayudu. Debutant at the same venue in 2013, 30-year old Rayudu has performed well in a series labeled as the testing ground for the youngsters.

In a press conference on Monday, Rayudu expressed satisfaction over his batting. "I am happy with the way I am batting. You know the conditions well but still every year and every time it's different. I haven't looked into the past. I am just playing on what I am facing as per conditions. I have worked on the game also a bit so I am happy," Rayudu told the media, reported Cricbuzz.

It has been a start-stop career so far for Rayudu, who is still a long way down the pecking order in selection for the Indian team despite putting up impressive performances. Most notable of them are the centuries he scored against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in winning causes. The heavy competition for spots in the side and his age–30 is relatively old–are probably the reasons for his limited opportunities. However, the Baroda batsman is content with how his career has panned out so far.

Cricbuzz quoted Rayudu as saying,"My ODI career, I am really happy with the way it has gone. Given the guys that we have in the team, somebody has to do the role that I am doing. So it is important for me to stay focussed and take my opportunities when they come".

Rayudu said that for him it’s generally about getting his batting in shape. For him, visualization is the key most of the times. Rayudu said, “Even when you're out for a long period of time, traveling with the team, I try to keep myself motivated and focused. I prepare myself before the game as though I am going to play it," Cricbuzz wrote.
