DDCA to bail out BCCI by buying tickets to fill empty Kotla stands

The fall in numbers came to notice in the eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, with a lot of stands in the Feroze Shah Kotla appearing empty. This triggered the Board to ask the Delhi and District Cricket Association to pick up 2900 tickets for the second qualifier, reported The Hindu. The qualifier between Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday is also scheduled to take place in Delhi.

The fall in numbers has been especially pronounced in the foster homes of most of the teams, especially Raipur and Vishakhapatnam. The DDCA is also bound by the restrictions set by the High Court to limit its complimentary passes to 10000. Right now, DDCA receives 7000 tickets and will get another 2900 as per the directive by the board. Not to mention the DDCA would have to shell out roughly Rs 8 lakh from their pockets in the form of taxes levied on the sale of the same 2900 tickets.

For the parent body to sell tickets to a state unit shows the soup the BCCI is in with respect to the popularity of the IPL.

“Can’t the cash-rich Board buy these tickets and distribute them among poor children,” asked a DDCA official, as reported by The Hindu.
