Gavaskar: I will give 9.75 out of 10 to India for their performance in Mohali
Legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar has praised the Indian team for their brilliant performance in the Mohali Test and given 9.75 marks on a scale of 10. He has also criticised the England team for squandering their opportunity after winning the toss by not playing “good cricket” throughout the game.
India put on a brilliant performance in the third Test and didn’t give a single moment to the Englishmen to make a comeback in the game. On a track that had very less on offer for the pace bowlers, England lost continuous wickets on the first day to hand India the crucial advantage.
Hailing the Indian team’s performance as a fantastic one, former Test opener Sunil Gavaskar said in an interview to the NDTV, “This is a near-to-perfect performance by the Indian team and I will give 9.75 out of 10 to India for their performance in the Mohali Test.”
Gavaskar slammed England’s modus operandi and said that they played really bad cricket despite winning the toss.
“England were never in a position to win the game. They had won the toss and lost the opportunity to take a good lead in the first innings. They have not played good cricket and they have to accept it” he said.
He added, “There is no excuse for England for the conditions or the pitch. These were England-like conditions and they should have performed better.”
Indian spinners ruled the roost at Mohali, in fact, as they maintained their dominance over the English batters. Praising them, Gavaskar went on to add, “Indian spinners were brilliant with the bat. The seven, eight and nine numbers for India were the key, as they contributed with the bat and because of them India got past England’s first innings total,”
