The International Cricket Council has agreed to provide special assistance to the Pakistan Cricket Board owing to financial losses incurred in the absence of international cricket at home. No international side has toured Pakistan since the 2009 militant attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

“The PCB made a request for a special assistance fund to be allocated to Pakistan in light of its financial issues related to not being able to compete at home,” ICC said in a statement after its executive committee meeting in Cape Town.

“The ICC Board, on the recommendation of the Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee, agreed that some form of assistance will be provided and the matter will be discussed with PCB going forward.”

Pakistan have been playing their home series in the UAE for the past seven years.

The ICC also decided to present a sum of USD 500,000 each to Ireland and Afghanistan to stage more ODIs and T20Is. It also decided to give USD 250,000 to other Associate Members with ODI and T20I status for the same purpose.
