Mitchell Starc makes hilarious mistake; tweets the "wrong Virat Kohli"

Social media can prove to be a boon or a bane, and Mitchell Starc found that out the hard way that every character counts on Twitter, after accidentally sending a congratulatory message using Twitter Direct Message to the fan account @imVkohIIi rather than Kohli’s official handle, @imVkohli. The extra ‘l’ proved costly for Starc as the owner of the fan account was quick to share Starc’s message with the cricketing world.

In the misdirected message Starc attempted to cool tensions between him and his former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate, Kohli, after a heated Test series between India and Australia that ended in Kohli’s side’s favor. The duo played together in the IPL for RCB in 2014 and 2015.

The tweet read: “Hey friend :) Hopefully I don't have to look for a new IPL team?? Haha media hey! Didn't get a chance to have a proper catch up mate but Congrats on the series win and on your summer personally... I hope that shoulder is on the mend and not too bad. Good luck for the ipl, here's hoping to an RCB win. Cheers mate.”

Starc, who himself had fractured his right foot during the second Test in Bengaluru and returned home for treatment was referring to comments made by Kohli after the final Test in Dharamsala wherein he said that he no longer considered the Australian players as his friends.

In a post-match press conference, Kohli had said that his perception of the Aussie players had changed after the recently concluded series and that he did not consider them as friends anymore. However, Kohli has corrected his statement on Thursday, when he tweeted from his official Twitter account saying that, his comments had been "blown way out of proportion".
