IPL 2017 | Tom Moody clarifies Mustafizur and Warner situation
SRH head coach Tom Moody has confirmed that the franchise is expecting star bowler Mustafizur Rahman to join the team on April 7. He also clarified that captain David Warner had been given a couple of extra days off to "recharge his batteries" for their title defence campaign.
Mustafizur was a part of the star-studded Hyderabad bowling attack along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra that was instrumental in SRH's maiden title win last year. The 21-year-old was particularly impressive with his control and variations on the ball. Mustafizur will miss a rematch of last year's final against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 5 but Moody believes that he will be a part of the team after that.
"We're expecting him (Mustafizur) to be here on the 7th. Unless we hear differently from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), we'll continue to expect him," Moody confirmed, reported Cricbuzz.
"One of the reasons why we secured both these talents (Ben Laughlin & Chris Jordan) is we knew Mustafizur is going to be available for only small portion of the tournament. We felt it was important to fill that gap and these guys have got excellent skills that enable us to have that option to be able to finish games."
But Mustafizur isn't the only one that the defending Champions will miss in the opening game. Skipper David Warner, who scored an incredible 848 runs last season will not be available for selection as well after he was given an extra couple of days off by the franchise.
"We've given him (Warner) an extra couple of days in Sydney to be with his family. We recognise as a franchise that family is important and in also keeping players fresh mentally. He's sending possible XIs for the games, so he hasn't switched off," Moody explained.
"He's just having a chance to recharge those batteries. Physically he's absolutely fine. 100% fit and I think the extra couple of days the franchise has allowed him back home with his two young daughters and his wife will pay dividends as the tournament unfolds."
