WATCH: Fabien Allen takes one of the greatest catches of all time
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ Fabian Allen took the catch of the decade as the 22-year-old covered good ground to pull off a left-handed blinder near the ropes to dismiss Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Jason Mohammed. Patriots won it, narrowly, to put the icing on the cake for the substitute midfielder.
Allen wasn’t a part of the first eleven but he did manage to get his name on the scoreboard in the most incredible fashion. His stunning catch will surely force the coach and team skipper Chris Gayle to have second thoughts ahead of next game’s team selection in the Caribbean Premier League.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots managed to put up a gettable target of 133 runs on board, which looked like a comfortable chase for the Warriors as they were 3-102 in the 17th over. West Indian batsman Jason Mohammed was set on the pitch with 41 runs off 41 balls with all believing him to take the side all the way when this happened.
He managed to slog Hasan Ali over deep point in what looked like a one bounce boundary, but Allen had other plans. Running from the deep extra cover, the youngster latched on to it with his left hand. The way he slid to get up on his feet quickly in order to prevent his momentum to take him over the boundary is also commendable.
"I don't want to be a person of the moment, but that's the best catch I've ever seen," said former West Indian star Ian Bishop.
Allen's catch did make a difference as the smooth run was thwarted and the Warriors could only garner 5/26 from the last four overs, falling short by just four runs.
