BCCI CEO Rahul Johri confirms full tour of South Africa
BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has confirmed that India will tour South Africa for a full-fledged tour putting all the rumours regarding shortening of the trip to rest. Johri has also stated that there has been no development in the context of the women's IPL stating it is a decision to be made by the BCCI.
Sri Lanka is due to visit India in November and December to play three Tests, five ODIs and one-off T20 after Sri Lanka Cricket requested the BCCI to reschedule their tour. The two boards had agreed upon Sri Lanka visiting India in February but the program was rescheduled to make for Independence Cup in the Island nation in March.
The changes in the plan had raised suspicions about India's tour of South Africa in December being cut short. However, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri clarified that the tour will go on as planned with only the dates of the matches being shuffled.
"The South Africa tour is on. There is some back and forth on dates, but it will be a full tour and that has been locked in," Johri told PTI.
The Indian women's team recent success at the ICC Women's World Cup had raised calls for hosting a women's IPL but Johri clarified that no substantial development has been made in those regards.
"That (women's IPL) is for the BCCI general body and the office bearers to decide. We will implement whatever their decision. Last year we did create a separate vertical for women's cricket and we made Prof. Shetty in-charge for women's cricket.
"It was a part of our internal re-organisation and enhanced focus on women's cricket, and the results are there for everyone to see," he said.
The Committee of Administrators(CoA) recently submitted a report to the Supreme Court that highlighted the problems they are facing in implementing the Lodha reforms. Johri reiterated them while expressing his helplessness on imposing the reforms on the BCCI.
"I was powerless to stop those SGMs. I do attend and will attend SGMs only if they want me to otherwise not.
"The office bearers and the board secretary run these things. My job is to facilitate what the COA asks and what the office bearers ask. At best, I am a link between the two," Johri signed off.
