Before scoring 11867 Test runs, Shivnarine Chanderpaul had already become a household name thanks to his extraordinary batting stance. In a Sheffield Shield game, George Bailey scored 71 runs for Tasmania while batting with a stance where he almost turned his back to the bowler.

Muttiah Muralitharan, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Paul Adams, Shivil Kaushik, among others, earned a name for themselves as unorthodox bowlers but as a batsman there is hardly anyone who can match Chanderpaul when it comes to his unique style. But that changed in the Sheffield Shield.

Bailey played with closed stance where he almost turned his back on the bowler. At times, he was almost facing the wicket-keeper instead of the bowler and while it looked like a very funny stance, it was equally effective. The New South Wales bowlers seemed to be distracted by the stance as Bailey went on to thrash them to all side of the ground as, once the ball was out of the bowler's hand, he quickly jumped into a "proper position" to find the gaps in the field.

People found it unconventional but it didn’t bother Bailey as the Tasmania skipper continued his good JLT Sheffield Shield form and scored 71 runs which helped Tasmania reach a score of 392/4 before declaring.
