Ravichandran Ashwin believes Zimbabwe's win over Sri Lanka is healthy for cricket

Zimbabwe edged past Sri Lanka in the deciding fifth ODI and clinched a 3-wicket victory over the hosts and in the process ended their eight-year overseas victory drought while winning their first series in the island nation. India's premier off-spinner and world number two Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin termed the win as a positive for the game of cricket.

“With regard to Zimbabwe winning over Sri Lanka, that’s how the game goes, anybody can lose, anybody can win. Tomorrow Afghanistan may beat someone, so that’s the way the sport needs to (go). It is very healthy for the game,” Ashwin told PTI on the sidelines of a promotional event.

Ashwin unsurprisingly is a part of the Indian Test squad that will tour Sri Lanka for a full tour comprising three Tests, five ODIs, and one T20I which will kick off with the first Test at Galle.

The 30-year old, however, restricted himself from commenting on the appointment of the new Indian coach in Ravi Shastri.

“I think, the new coach or the new support staff, it does not come under my jurisdiction, it is not something I will take a call on.

“I am not being diplomatic, it will be unfair for me to pass a comment on that. Like always, the Indian team moves on, India moves on (and) we have to find out in course of time, how it is going,” said Ashwin.
