Champions Trophy 2017 | MS Dhoni's inputs are always very helpful, says Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has revealed that he did take advice from his predecessor MS Dhoni during India's game against South Africa and expressed that Dhoni's inputs were always valuable to him. India won the game comprehensively by an eight-wicket margin to seal a semi-final berth.
MS Dhoni, who gave up the ODI captaincy in January earlier this year, still has a big say in the field placement as was evident in India's match against South Africa where the current skipper Virat Kohli was seen seeking advice from the wicketkeeper.
“His (Dhoni’s) input is obviously always very precise, very helpful at any stage of the game… today it was all about asking him whether to keep the slip in there long enough or what does he think of the fields and just taking assurance,” he said.
Dhoni was chosen in the team not only for his brilliant wicketkeeping and batting skills but also for the vast experience he holds that have come in handy during the toughest of situations. Kohli stated that he always welcomed inputs from such players no matter what the stage of the game may be.
“Obviously you don’t want to feel isolated out there. Yes, you’re making decisions, but the inputs from such experienced players are priceless at any stage of the day,” said Kohli.
The Delhi batsman in the past also clarified that he never hesitates to take Dhoni's suggestions during the game. India will be seen in action against Bangladesh in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy on June 15th at Birmingham and it would be interesting to see how Kohli and Dhoni team up to strategise a plan to overcome their Asian rival.
