WATCH | MS Dhoni stretches with the grace of a gymnast to save his wicket
MS Dhoni’s presence of mind is something that has helped India get out of so many crunch situations and today, while he wasn't able to prevent a defeat, he reiterated it once again. After stepping out of the crease, Dhoni stunned Glenn Phillips by nearly pulling off a full split to save his wicket.
India were reduced to a paltry 122/4 in 16 overs and the chances of a win looked pretty bleak, but the Indians had their hopes pinned on the duo of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to create some magic with their willow. Although those fireworks never came, Dhoni decided to showcase the typical “Dhoni moment” that just reaffirmed that why he is still considered as one of the best brains in the game.
On the first ball of the seventh over, hoping to hit Mitchell Santner for a big one, the former Indian skipper went down the track, but, unfortunately for him, could not get to the ball and was beaten outside the off-stump. For Phillips, who was playing only his third T20I of his career, it was an easy chance to dismiss Dhoni, but with the grace of a gymnast, Dhoni stretched his legs fully and dragged it to the crease. Even after losing his balance, Dhoni still managed to stay in the crease till his Kiwi counterpart whipped the bails off.
After the umpire went upstairs to get the final verdict, the third umpire ruled him not out, much to the joy of the Indian fans. As Dhoni walked back to the crease, all Phillips could do was smile at the genius of the former Indian captain.
