I fully support Virat Kohli's rotation policy, says Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami has backed Virat Kohli’s rotation policy for the home series by stating that it helps cricketers like him to get proper rest during the long cricketing season. Shami was part of the Australia series but played only the Bengaluru game where he wasn't able to get a wicket in 10 overs.
In the recent past, the Indian cricket team has been following the rotation policy as they are keeping an eye on the 2019 World Cup in England. This policy has handed the management an opportunity to test out the bench strength and young players like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have benefitted from the same. They have become a part of the playing XI replacing the experienced duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The policy also helps in managing the workload of the bowlers to keep them fresh and reduce the chances of injury. Shami not only backed the policy but also believed that it helps players especially injury-prone cricketers as it gives them proper time to recover before any game.
“I fully support Kohli’s rotation policy. It gives rest to players like me to get ready not only for Tests but across all formats,” Shami said in Kolkata on Friday as quoted by PTI.
Shami has played 25 Tests and 50 ODIs for India in which he has taken 86 and 91 wickets respectively. The 27-year-old was part of India’s five-match ODI series against Australia and featured in the Bengaluru ODI where he returned wicketless.
Recently, the right arm pacer got eight wickets for Bengal in their innings win against Chhattisgarh in Raipur in the Ranji Trophy.
