Yuzvendra Chahal: Virat Kohli always motivates you even if you are not doing well

Virat Kohli’s strategy of using wrist spinners in the series against Sri Lanka has worked out pretty well as the Indian Team had an incredible tour whitewashing Sri Lanka in both Tests and limited-overs cricket. Among the talented wrist spinners was the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who bowled with varying pace and amount of spin, which was enough to deceive six Lankan batsmen in four matches. However, Chahal owed this all to skipper Virat Kohli and held that it was his positive attitude that motivated him to perform. 

"Virat Kohli always remains positive on the ground, always confident about his decisions. He will always motivate you even if you are giving runs or if you are not doing well," Chahal told India TV in an exclusive chat.

Chahal and Kohli have known each other for a long time, which explains the amount of faith which the captain has in him. Chahal has been a vital part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL for quite a few years now and Kohli, who leads the franchise, happens to understand his strengths and weaknesses really well.

And also, wrist spinners are Kohli’s favorite already and it was quite apparent throughout the fifth and the final ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo, as the Indian skipper decided on to play with two wrist spinners (Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav) in the playing XI - a first in India's 922 ODIs and both the spinners did well with the ball. 

"Sri Lanka tour is very important for me because I came back after one year in the ODI team and we won 5-0. I can't express my feeling how happy I am to be a part of this team," said Chahal.  

The Haryana spinner held that he was quite certain of getting purchases from the sluggish Sri Lankan tracks. 

 "Sri Lankan pitches are very slow. Before I came here, I bowled on the similar kind of wickets in South Africa and I performed well there. So, I was confident about myself and obviously, it was a great feeling if you take wickets for your team and help the team to win wearing the India jersey. It is a great feeling, you can't express it in words," he concluded.
