Faf du Plessis is slowly making a name for himself for running his partner out as his compatriot Hashim Amla became his latest. Yesterday, in the match against Pakistan, miscommunication between du Plessis and Amla resulted in the latter prematurely returning to the pavilion.

During the Champions Trophy match against India, David Miller and Faf du Plessis had put up a funny example of miscommunication at the crease, after both batsmen were left stranded at one end which resulted in Miller being run out. Faf emerged as the major culprit in the incident as the South African changed his mind thrice in a span of few seconds. Du Plessis was also responsible for the run-out of then skipper AB de Villiers, which drew a lot of flak from the Proteas fans, who took to Twitter to vent out their frustrations. Yesterday, Amla got out due to the lack of communication between him and the skipper.

After the dismissal of Ben Cutting, du Plessis joined his Proteas teammate in the middle when the World XI side were in desperate search of a partnership to get back in the game, but Amla fell prey to a communication blunder. The World XI skipper played the ball on the back foot, just nudging it towards the midwicket. As he took a few steps and initiated a single, Amla answered the call and ran towards the striker’s end, but du Plessis changed his mind and headed back to his crease without even signalling  to Amla.

Midwicket fielder Fakhar Zaman was quick to get on the ball and tried a direct hit at the stumps. Amla could not get back to the crease in time and the bowler, Hasan Ali, was alert enough to dislodge the bails and send the Proteas opener out for 21 runs from 12 balls.

Lasith Malinga or Bhuvneshwar Kumar? Who will take more wickets?
