Australia to rest speedster Pat Cummins for T20Is against India

India are already 2-0 up in the ODI series and reports suggest that following the conclusion of the remaining three matches, namely Indore (September 24), Bangalore (September 28), and Nagpur (October 1), Cummins will move back to Australia to be ready for the 2017-18 Sheffield Shield season, and the Ashes from later November.

"Pat has played a considerable amount of cricket this year after a long period away from the game due to injury. His body has handled the return to international cricket well, but we believe the best plan for him ahead of the Ashes Series is to return home to refresh, both mentally and physically, before he prepares for Sheffield Shield cricket," said national selector Trevor Hohns, reported Cricket Australia.

The stock of Australian pace bowlers is running low as it is with Josh Hazlewood and James Pattinson, in addition to Mitchell Starc, struggling with injuries before the new domestic season. As a result, Cummins had to lead the Australian attack in the two-Test tour of Bangladesh and the ongoing ODI series in India.

Cummins, himself, has had to struggle with injuries and made a Test comeback earlier this year during the Border-Gavaskar series against India, replacing Starc who had to return home with the injury. Cummins could be playing the Ashes opener in Brisbane, starting November 23, if he will be able to manage the workload and remains injury free.

Australia hasn't yet named Cummins's replacement for the three-match T20I series which is due to start on October 7
