IPL playoffs, which were supposed to be held in Pune, may reportedly be moved to Lucknow after Pune became the new home venue for CSK and would host 6 games. A BCCI official cited that Lucknow’s huge capacity was the reason for picking it but has also stated Rajkot and Kolkata as possible options.

The BCCI are contemplating Lucknow as the venue for this season’s playoffs. Pune, which was originally scheduled to host the playoffs on May 23 and May 25, has lost out on the chance to host the playoffs as it has now become the new home for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Pune are now hosting six games and hence, the eliminator and the second qualifier have been shifted out of the city.

A top BCCI official has revealed that Kolkata and Rajkot are also in the fray to get the playoffs. But, it is sending an IMG team to Lucknow on Tuesday (April 24) and the call will be taken after that.

“What works in Lucknow’s favour is the huge crowd capacity (around 50,000) of the stadium in that city. However, we haven’t finalised this yet. Rajkot and Kolkata are also in the running. We’ll send an (IMG) team to Lucknow on Tuesday, and should be able to take a call later that day,” a top BCCI official was quoted saying by TOI.

It is also learnt that Lucknow was originally supposed to get a few IPL games but certain issues meant that they lost out. Meanwhile, former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah is keen that Rajkot hosts the playoffs this season.
