WACA head curator Brett Sipthorpe has stated that he has been directed to prepare the pitch fast and bouncy for the second Test between India and Australia. Track record of the Indian batsmen has not been good against the short deliveries as Indian pitches are more on the flatter side.

India beat Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to take a 1-0 lead in the four match series. The second Test match is scheduled to start tomorrow at the new Optus Stadium. This would be the first international Test match to be played a the newly-built stadium and there are uncertainties as to how the pitch will play over the five days of the match.

"We've just been told make it fast, make it bouncy if you can and run with it," Sipthorpe said on Thursday.

"We're just trying to produce the bounciest pitch we can."

The curator also added that the pitch will be similar to the one used in the Sheffield Shield match last month. In that game, 32 of the 40 wickets fell to fast bowling. But, Kurtis Patterson proved that runs could be scored, as he did with a fine century on day one by staying at the crease.

"We're pretty much planning for exactly what we had for the Shield game," Sipthorpe said.

"The feedback we got back from the players was terrific, I don't think I've spent so much time talking to players during a game but we just wanted to garner as much feedback as we could from the players."

One can make out from the following comments of the curator that it would be a good toss to lose since it would be a really difficult task to decide whether to bat first or bowl.

"They've had all the talk about pace and bounce and movement, but how long can you sustain heavy pressure in 38 degrees?" the curator questioned.

"That's the challenge. If you win the toss do you bowl and make the most of the conditions, or do you think – actually, we're going to be pretty tired after 50 overs in 38 degrees?"
