WATCH | Supersport releases a heart-warming promo for the SA-India series

India and South Africa share a close bond with each other and the two countries camaraderie dates back to the time of Mahatma Gandhi. The two nations bounded by cultural relationship, and to celebrate the same, Supersport released a wonderful tribute as the promo for the Freedom series.

Television promos ahead of any cricket series has, of late, not just been a way to attract viewers rather it directly embodies itself to the psyche of the spectators. Be it Star Sports’ famous “Mauka Mauka” or their ongoing “Under-19 World Cup” ad, it garnered attraction from all quarters. However, ahead of the series against India, Cricket South Africa official broadcaster Supersport has released a wonderful promo that would melt the heart of any cricket fan. 

The video depicts the long-standing cultural and political relationship that the two nations share and that started up from the period of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi, in April 1893, set sail for South Africa to be a lawyer and developed his political views, ethics and politics after being subjugated to prejudice against him and his fellow Indians from the British in the African nation. He acted as an activist in the nation and was one of the first fighters to fight for the rights of black people. 

If that was the initiation of two nation’s cultural relationship, Nelson Mandela, who served as the first black president of South Africa, started becoming an avid follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in 2013, as well. 

So, to commemorate and celebrate two nation’s national heroes, the two cricket boards agreed on to name the India-South Africa series as Freedom series (Gandhi-Mandela Trophy). And ahead of the Test series that begins on January 5 in Cape Town, their promo also has a “Thank You” message to India for helping them return to cricket post-apartheid got zero jingoism.
