Shoaib Malik suffers concussion after Colin Munro throw hits him on the head
Shoaib Malik suffered a blow on the back of the head while running between the wickets during the fourth ODI against New Zealand in Hamilton which resulted in a concussion. However, after hitting the all-rounder’s head, the ball went to the boundary which gave Pakistan five overthrow runs.
The former Pakistan skipper came out to bat without a helmet given that the spinners were in action on both the ends. However, while picking a run in the 32nd over, Malik was sent back by his partner Mohammad Hafeez, but at the time of return, a throw from Colin Munro hit the batsman on the head. While Malik fell down immediately and needed some attention, the ricochet had deflected the ball to the boundary.
Although Malik resumed batting after some time, his innings couldn’t last long as he was dismissed for 6 three balls later. Pakistan team physiotherapist and the match doctor, however, released a statement saying, Malik had shown signs of delayed concussion and the all-rounder also didn’t take part in the match further.
"Shoaib was assessed by the match doctor and myself," VB Singh, the Pakistan team physiotherapist, said.
"He did not have any symptoms of a concussion and was able to carry on playing. After getting out, he was reassessed and was showing delayed concussion signs. He is doing well and is resting. As advised by the match doctor and Pakistan team physiotherapist, he will not be taking any further part in the match," he said.
