Joe Root has decided to increase his T20 experience, as he will be participating in Australia's Big Bash League this winter. Playing for Sydney Thunders, he will be joined by Jos Buttler, as Root wishes to acquaint himself with the shortest format of the game which is continuously evolving.
England Test Captain Joe Root’s career history reveals that he has just played a total number of 11 T20s from the time England became a finalist in the World T20 in 2016. Out of the 11 T20s that Root has played during the period, eight of them were for the England team. He was relieved from Playing in nine matches during that time period.
However, Root is quite sincere in playing for the national team but he aspires to update himself with the most trending format of the game. His participation in the Big Bash League is his attempt to increase his experience in T20 format and make himself ready for the World T20 that will be held in Australia in 2020.
Jos Buttler, on the other hand, has gained a lot of experience as a T20 cricketer. With his participation in the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League and Bangladesh Premier League, he has reformed himself as a lethal T20 player. In total in the time period of 27 months, he has participated in 92 matches and made himself one of the hottest names in the T20 market.
As the final Test match against Sri Lanka finishes on 27 November, the players will have the whole of December to themselves, probably having to report back on January 11. Sydney Thunders will be announcing their picks next month. Shane Bond, who will be coaching Thunders got acquainted with Root last winter in the Ashes Tour.
So, the pair of Jos Buttler and Joe Root will be available to play for five and eight matches in the tournament, before they have to travel to the Caribbean for the first Test of the year. The English Test skipper will be attempting to improve his game in this format as he failed to secure a team for himself in the IPL.
