BCCI has decided to withhold Mohammed Shami's name from the official annual contracts list after his wife accused him of having an extra-marital affair and domestic violence. Shami was expected to be handed a Grade B contract which would have given him an annual retainer of 3 crores.

Yesterday, the BCCI put forward a completely new retainer contract system and graded players in four sections, moving away from the three that they had been using previously. However, Shami's name was not on the list despite being a regular in the national team for a long time. The matter stemmed from the fact that the Committee of Administrators took his wife's allegations of domestic violence and infidelity seriously. The BCCI didn't want to invite any sort of controversy and withheld Shami's name from including in the retainer contract and will take further step after the police are done with their proceedings.

Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife first made the allegations on him through social media Tuesday night and it is understood that later she met the police. The Indian cricketer, who currently in Dharamsala for Deodhar Trophy, posted a tweet on Wednesday morning saying that all the news was "absolutely false" and a "conspiracy" to defame him. According to the ESPNCricinfo, the Indian cricket board decided to sit on the decision of Shami’s name.

"We are in a bit of Catch 22," Vinod Rai, chairman of COA said.

"Ordinarily you would distinguish and say that [the allegation] is a personal issue and the contract is a professional issue. But someone could easily point out and say this allegation is an unsavoury one and you are still rewarding him ."
