Domestic cricketers to get double their current salaries as per BCCI and CoA, says Vinod Rai
Cricketers in the domestic leagues are set for a big pay hike as CoA chairman, Vinod Rai confirmed that the players are set to earn a salary of almost Rs 26 lakhs after gross revenue share of BCCI is calculated. Rai said the board is making arrangements to pay the players a Rs 35,000 salary per day.
Domestic cricketers have often been overlooked as far as the economic side of things in Indian cricket are concerned. As compared to players in the National side who earn considerably well due to contracts with the BCCI, domestic cricketers often struggle to sustain their families and keeping things on track. Such players often wait for the IPL in order to earn a substantial amount that will help them support their families if they are bought at the auction that is.
But now, things are set to change as Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman, Vinod Rai recently confirmed that the players in the domestic leagues are set for a huge pay hike that will almost double their current salaries.
“If a domestic cricketer was making around Rs 10 lakh per season, he will make Rs 20 lakh upfront from BCCI and another Rs 6 to 7 lakh from BCCI’s gross revenue share to make it Rs 26 lakh,” Rai told TOI.
The current domestic player earned an average of Rs 10 lakh per annum while he playing in the various domestic competitions throughout the year, not taking the IPL into consideration. They are set to see their salary go from Rs 10,000 per day to a substantial amount in the region of Rs 35,000 per day.
“This is quite a jump from what the domestic cricketers were making in the past. Earlier, they were paid Rs 10,000 per day. Now, they will get Rs 35,000, which is a considerable jump. Of course, if certain teams play more matches, they would be paid more because the number of days will go up,” Rai explained.
The domestic players had also complained earlier that BCCI authorities had held up their salaries for a period of up to two years. Rai added that the CoA is waiting for the upcoming AGM in order to figure out how to compensate the players for their respective dues.
“After the BCCI AGM clears the accounts and the respective state associations create their invoices, their players would be given the money immediately. The board is also making arrangements to pay all domestic cricketers their share of Rs 35,000 per day, which would be doled out shortly,” Rai added.
