India Women's T20I series against Windies cancelled owing to CIW's financial constraints
India's three-match series against Windies, which was likely to be scheduled in the last week of October at St. Kitts in West Indies, has been confirmed to be cancelled for the financial constraints of CWI. Both the teams will instead be training in Antigua before the ICC preparation period begins.
Failing to go past the group stages in the last three T20 editions, the India Women team had a great chance to practice in their series against the Windies women before heading to the main preparations. However, now with the bilateral T20I series against the Windies in St. Kitts now cancelled, the Indian eves would be missing out on crucial game time now ahead of the 2018 ICC Women's World T20.
"CWI & BCCI were hoping to schedule three International T20s in St. Kitts ahead of the Women's World T20, as part of our respective preparation plans. As the series was not part of any bilateral future tours programme, CWI has been discussing the financials with the BCCI and unfortunately, the matches will now not be taking place. Both teams will instead be training in Antigua before the ICC preparation period begins, said a CWI source, reported Cricbuzz.
Prior to leaving for the Caribbean on October 27, Indian women’s team had been scheduled a 10-day conditioning camp in Mumbai, following which, India would play a warm-up 50-over game against defending champions Windies on November 4 in Antigua, and against England on November 7 in Guyana
India’s tour of Sri Lanka in September 2018, where they swept the home side five-match T20I series 4-0, was pretty much their final international action before the world event, where the appointment of Ramesh Power in Sri Lanka series was largely a successful experimentation.
Windies, on the other hand, have not had much of a good action in T20I 2018, as the series ended with a 2-2 draw against the visiting South Africa side. Prior to this recent tournament, Windies were whitewashed 4-0 at New Zealand tour in March.
India are likely to launch their campaign for a maiden title against Black Cats on November 9 in Guyana, whereas, Windies would kickstart their title defence on the opening day against Bangladesh in the evening fixture at the same venue. India are placed in the Group B with Australia, Ireland, and Pakistan while Windies is up to face South Africa, Sri Lanka and England in group A in 2018 ICC Women's World T20 tournament.
