Mumbai Indians have finally managed to replace West Indian Alzarri Joseph, almost after a week since the fast bowler was injured, with South Africa’s Beuran Hendricks. This would be the second IPL season for the 28-year-old Proteas bowler after he played for Kings XI Punjab previously.

Though three-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians haven’t really slowed down with the constant injury crisis that they have faced this season, sitting third on the table with 12 points after 10 matches, they were in dire need of a fast bowler after Joseph had to pull out last Monday with a shoulder injury.

The side took their time to find a replacement and have finally found one in South Africa’s Hendricks, who has prior IPL and T20I experience. Playing a total of seven matches for KXIP in 2014 and 2015 before, Hendricks has nine wickets to his name at a strike rate of 16.66. However, replacing Joseph, who scalped six wickets in three matches, would still be a huge task.

“Beuran Hendricks, the South African left-arm pace bowler, has signed with the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Alzarri Joseph for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019,” BCCI’s statement read.

“The West Indian Joseph was picked as a replacement for Adam Milne and went on to make a dramatic entry into the VIVO IPL with a record-breaking spell of six for 12. Hendricks comes in as a replacement, signing up with his second VIVO IPL franchise having represented Kings XI Punjab in the past. The left-armer has played two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 10 T20Is for South Africa,” the statement further read.
