ICC World Cup 2019 | Sundaram Ravi only Indian named among 22 match officials
Sundaram Ravi has been named among 22 match officials for 48-league matches in ICC World Cup 2019, starting May 30. The squad contains sixteen umpires and six match referees including three past winners. Ian Gould, who has announced his retirement after the tournament, has also been named.
The match officials' names for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 were announced in Dubai, the list consisted of 22 match officials. 53-year old Sundaram Ravi who has officiated 42 ODIs, 33 tests and 18 T20s is the only Indian to make it to the list.
The list includes Boon and Reiffel who were a part of the Australian side that won the title in 1987 and 1999 respectively. Dharmasena a part of Sri Lanka’s side that emerged victorious in 1996.
"It is a tough job with the eyes of the cricketing world on every decision, but this group of 22 is the very best from around the world who will rise to the occasion. I wish them all the very best," said Adrian Griffith, ICC Senior Manager – umpires and referees, reported PTI.
61-year-old Ian Gould, who was England's wicketkeeper in the 1983 World Cup, officiated in 74 Tests, 135 ODIs and 37 T20Is has announced his retirement after the tournament.
This group of 22 officials are well-experienced and suited for umpiring in the high-voltage tournament. Umpires for the semi-finals will be announced after the league matches.
