ASHES 2019 | Weather forecast suggests 1st day of the Lord's Test to grapple with rain
The weather forecast shows consistent rain in London and that means the first day of play could get significantly marred due to the conditions, with the start of play could likely to see rain chances as much as 60%. The nature of the pitch is expected to be different from that of the Ireland game.
During the lone Test match against Ireland, three weeks ago, England captain Joe Root had criticized the Lord's pitch calling it "substandard". As opposed to the lush green top last month, when England fell for 85 in the 1st innings, the pitch for the 2nd Ashes Test was supposed to be dry and decent enough for batting. However, things could change due to the cool and wet weather in London now with covers at the Lord's in constant quest to save the pitch from getting wet.
All eyes are on Jofra Archer, the one who helped England lift the World Cup just one month ago and will now be making his Test debut. England will be looking forward to putting in their entirety to make a comeback in the series after a 0-1 trail. On the other hand, Steve Smith is in an impeccable form and will be impossible to stop at anything close to a flat surface, or rather any conditions at all.
All in all, the most important fixture of this week in Cricket is going to be rain dominated as the match is supposed to be starting at 11.00 am local time.
