Afghanistan Cricket Board suspend Mohammad Shahzad from all forms of cricket for 12 months

Mohammed Shahzad's relation with the board plummeted drastically after he was sent home midway through the World Cup due to injury and fitness issues. However, once he reached home, he announced on his social media that he was completely fit to play but was still sent home by the board. This claim was later refuted by ACB CEO Asadullah Khan. Things took an interesting turn after that as the batsman was handed a ban for indefinite periods.

Now, the board has fixed the term of his suspension, which will now last one year - a period during which he can't play any form of cricket. In an official statement, the ACB stated: "Shahzad has violated ACB's disciplinary rules and regulations previously as well and has not adhered to ACB's code of conduct for players. He has travelled out of the country several times violating ACB's policy for players to seek its permission before doing so. ACB has well-equipped training and practice facilities within the country and Afghan players do not require to travel abroad for such purposes,".

Last year, the cricket board had asked the wicket-keeper batsmen to move to Afghanistan permanently and threatened to have his contract terminated. The reason Shahzad moves out of Afghanistan frequently is because of the fact that he spent his early years in a refugee camp in Peshawar, but his parents are originally from Nangarhar, Afghanistan. Like many of his Afghanistan team-mates, Shahzad grew up near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and was married in Peshawar.
