Anil Kumble perfect candidate for chairman of selectors post, claims Virender Sehwag

Anil Kumble served as coach of the Indian team for a period of one year till the disappointing ICC Champions Trophy final loss against Pakistan. Kumble, who played 132 Test matches and 271 ODIs for India during his 18-year career, was also appointed as chairman of the ICC cricket committee in 2012.

At a recent public outing, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag suggested Kumble as the perfect candidate to be appointed as the next chairman of selectors. 

 "I think Anil Kumble could be the right candidate for the chairman of selectors post. He is someone who has interacted with Sachin (Tendulkar), Sourav (Ganguly) and Rahul (Dravid) as a player and with youngsters as a coach.

"When I made a comeback (Australia series 2007-08), captain Kumble came to my room and said you will not be dropped for the next two series. That's the kind of confidence a player needs. BCCI needs to raise bar as far as pay is concerned. Then a lot of players will be interested," Sehwag told reporters during the launch of a new app 'The Selector'.

Sehwag, who had lost the race for the national coach in 2017 to Ravi Shastri, also revealed that he did not send his application to the BCCI who chose to stick with Shastri for now. 

"In 2017, the BCCI secretary and (late) Dr MV Sridhar (GM Cricket Operations) asked me to apply so I applied. This time no one asked me, so I didn't apply," added Sehwag.
