Steve Smith explains similarities between him and Kane Williamson
Steve Smith, ahead of the crucial series against New Zealand admitted that Kane Williamson is one of the hardworking cricketers in the world, with a good eye. Further, he explained the similarities between himself and Williamson with both of them holding the bat reasonably in similar positions.
Steve Smith hailed the Kane Williamson as a complete player ahead of Australia’s three-match Test series against New Zealand. Smith, in particular, pointed out the similarities between himself and the Kiwi batsman. Further, Williamson’s ability to play the ball late is one quality that impresses the Australian.
“Terrific work ethic, a good eye and plenty of time. I think he has loads of time against quick bowling. He is a quality player and hopefully, we can keep him quiet this series,” Smith was quoted as saying by ICC.
The Australian then went on to explain the similarity between the duo, in terms of holding the bat and having the right grip to face bowlers on a tough condition.
“I think we actually hold the bat reasonably similarly,” he said. “He has got quite a closed grip. I like that in Test cricket personally. It just helps to play the ball a bit later and I think (Williamson) plays it a bit later than anybody else in the world ... He plays the ball incredibly late, he is patient.”
New Zealand travel to Australia having not won a single series in Australia in over 30 years. First up, they face the hostile Australian attack in a Day-Night game at Perth. New Zealand had last played a Day-Night match two years ago when they faced England in Auckland. The visitors had a major boost when all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme and bowler Trent Boult was declared fit ahead of the series.
