Australia suffered an injury setback after pacer Josh Hazelwood went off the field on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. Australia scored 416 in their first innings of the Perth Test, which is incidentally also the first-ever day-night Test at the venue.

After scoring 416 in the first innings, Australia rattled New Zealand's top order by sheer brilliance of pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who accounted for 4 of the 5 New Zealand wickets that fell in the final session. However, the Starc and Hazelwood pair would have done more wonders had the latter had not picked up an injury.

The Aussie pace attack suffered a mighty blow when Josh Hazelwood suffered a hamstring strain that saw him limp off the field on the second day of the Perth Test. The bowler strained his hamstring muscle midway through his second over and eventually left the field.

Hazlewood is supposed to undergo an MRI scan in the evening, which will offer more clarity on his participation in the remainder of The test and more importantly, in the rest of this two-Test series.

Ironically, during the Australian innings, New Zealand quick Lockie Ferguson was also ruled out of the game as he sustained a calf muscle strain which ensured that he would bowl no further overs in the game.

28-year-old Hazlewood has been enjoying a purple patch of late, having taken 31 wickets at an average of 21.94 since the start of the Ashes. The New South Wales pacer, after picking up the wicket of Jeet Raval in his very first over today, also edged closer to 200 Test wickets, but unfortunately got injured after bowling just eight balls.

Another day at Perth, another day of the Aussies holding the edge over their opponents.
