Disappointed with this non-selection in the national side, England batsman Sam Billings has publically declared a temporary break from franchise cricket, including IPL. The 28-year-old has taken the said decision in order to focus on the upcoming county season with the Kent Cricket Club.

Billings, who was England’s T20I vice-captain in the latest New Zealand tour, has completely pulled out from franchise cricket for the time being including the Indian Premier League. The decision was taken in order to make his way back to the national mix holding the hands of county cricket. He had a tough year owing to his shoulder injury which had led to his exclusion from England’s World Cup squad.

After being overlooked for selection in England's white-ball squads for their upcoming tour of South Africa, Billings opted to take the break. He suffered a poor run in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand having scored only 34 runs in all five innings. With the return of the rested players to the England squad, Billings was left out and so was Joe Root and Liam Plunkett. The consistent performers of the New Zealand series retained their places.

Billings then took to Twitter to announce his decision. "All the best to the lads heading to South Africa," Billings wrote on Twitter. "Huge amount of depth esp in the white-ball game atm. Of course, disappointed not to be involved but wish the boys all the best. Will be working hard to get back in the mix (in all formats) in the near future,” the player tweeted.

"On a personal level, I have chosen to pull out of any franchise cricket this winter as well to focus/freshen up for a big year with @KentCricket. Very fortunate to have played all over the last few years & a break from the game to refresh I feel is the best decision."
