The auction of the Indian Premier League 2020 will be held in Kolkata despite the protests held in the city against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). About 332 players are set to go under the hammer on December 19 in Kolkata and with only 73 slots to be filled, this will be a small auction.

Kolkata is set to host the IPL 2020 Auction in spite of the protests against the CAA and the auction will be held as scheduled on December 19. 332 players will be presented at the auction to the eight franchises and the preparation of the auction will be beginning from Tuesday as far as the Delhi Capitals are concerned according to the TOI.

"As of Monday evening, IPL auctions are on. Franchises will start arriving by tomorrow evening and Wednesday morning," a senior BCCI official told PTI.

While protests against the CAA are going on in Kolkata, there have been no reports of violence, which is a positive sign ahead of the player auction. Security is expected to be tight and the auction is expected to undergo smoothly despite the circumstances.

Big names among the 332 players that will go under the hammer are that of Glenn Maxwell and Dale Steyn who have kept their base price at INR 2 crores. Maxwell had been sensational for Punjab back in IPL 2014 but ever since, has had a mixed bag as far as form is concerned in the IPL and after pulling out of the last edition of the IPL for the preparation of 2019 World Cup, Maxwell will be available in the auction after being released by KXIP.

Dale Steyn, on the other hand, is seeing a decline in his career and having played a few games last season for RCB, will be hopeful of getting a suitor for him, especially after his impressive performances in the Mzansi Super League back home.

This is somewhat a kind of a mini-auction as only 73 slots need to be filled among 8 franchises as they will look to fill the small holes in their teams where they feel enforcements are required.
