Kane Williamson was a proud captain as he extolled the bowlers for holding their nerves and claiming wickets at key moments of the match that paved way for the hosts to win the series. He had expressed that the series helped the team gel as a unit but he also saw it as an isolated one.

New Zealand defeated India in the third T20I to clinch the series 2-1. In a high scoring encounter, India fell short of the target by 5 runs as the bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals to keep the Indian batsmen at bay.

"I thought the guys held their nerves in the second half where it was difficult. India came out and played some fantastic cameos but we were able to get those wickets at key moments," Williamson said after the match, reported PTI.

The Black Caps captain signified the importance of taking wickets against a strong batting side like India. He said that India had great batting depth and it was indeed important to hold the nerves in such nail-biting matches as India enjoy chasing.

"You need to take wickets against this Indian side because we know how much power they have and how deep their batting line-up is. India are a very strong side because of their depth, their batting line-up. They do enjoy chasing and it's always a threat," the Kiwi skipper asserted.

Williamson had mentioned that the series win was a huge confidence booster and the objective was to play proper cricket and stick as a team. He was very happy with the outcome but he also looked at the series as an isolated one so as to focus on the World Cup 2019 which is demanding and better sorted.

"We were sitting down and looking at what can we get at the end out of the series. It's just about each game as it comes. Like I said, we are looking at this series as an isolated series. We just don't want to sit down and ask ourselves what we want to see in terms of end point, we just wanted to gel as a group, play the sort of cricket we wanted to play and I think we did see that,” he added.
