Reports : Teams aren't supposed to name World Cup probables this time
Under the new Members Playing Agreement (MPA), which came into effect since 2016, there is no need for the teams to name a probable squad for an ICC event. So, as per this MPA, India won't have to announce a probable squad for the upcoming cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in England.
When India's chief selector MSK Prasad addressed to the media on Friday, he stated that he would have to pick 30 probable players for the World Cup by March 25, two months prior to the event. But now, ToI reported that he wasn't aware of a massive change in rules made by the ICC and in reality, he doesn't have to do that. But, as is the practice, all the teams are supposed to submit their final 15-man squads for the World Cup 30 days before the mega event.
According to the new Members Playing Agreement (MPA) coming into effect since 2016, any of the teams aren't supposed to name a provisional or probable squad for any ICC event anymore. And, specifically for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held from May 30 in England.
"The teams have the option of changing players in this 15 anytime up to seven days prior to the tournament, after which point the ICC's Event Technical Committee must approve any such changes," an ICC official told TOI.
This effectively means that all the teams would have to name their squads by April 30. India would thus select their team when the 12th edition of The IPL would be on.
